EarthKind Energy is pleased to provide renewable energy to Energetix
and NYSEG Solutions for their customers. The pioneering efforts of NSI and
Energetix to offer zero emission generation sources to mass market customers
has resulted in the most successful renewable energy program of its kind in
the state.Why purchase renewable energy?
NYSEG Solutions and Energetix offer customers renewable energy generated by
wind turbines and small hydro (water) electric plants that produce energy with
no emission of harmful gases such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen
oxides, particulates, mercury etc. Each pollutant has the potential to harm
the environment. Global Climate change, acid rain, smog, asthma and
contamination of fish have been linked to these substances. Customers that
purchase renewable energy are sending a clear message that they care about the
future and how they want energy produced. Purchases of renewable energy are
resulting in more clean energy being produced in the state.
Where does EarthKind Energy’s renewable energy come from?
The renewable energy consists of emission free energy from wind
turbines and small hydro facilities that supply the New York Power Grid. Most
of the renewable energy is generated from sources located within New York
State. However, the growing demand for renewable energy from consumers and the
New York State Renewable Portfolio Standard program, combined with the time
required to site new facilities, results in temporary shortages of economic
wind supplies in New York State. These temporary supply shortages create a
backlog of consumer demand for new wind farms that then results in the
development of new wind facilities.
In these instances, we import into New York State from wind and/or water
facilities in the neighboring power grid systems and follow the rules and
regulations of the New York State Public Service Commission's Environmental
Disclosure tracking and reporting system. Our goal is to continue to build
consumer demand so that we can reach 10,000 MWs of new wind farms - enough to
supply 20% of NYS's total electric needs.
How does this compare with the electricity available in the New York
State Electric generation market?
The New York State Public Service Commission established a process to
track all the generation and determine the amount carbon dioxide (linked to
Global Climate change) Sulfur Dioxide (linked to acid rain) and oxides of
Nitrogen (linked to smog and acid rain). A recent calculation showed the
average emissions of carbon dioxide for spot market electricity to be over a
pound per kilowatt-hour. These generating sources can also associated with
emissions of small particulates and mercury. The New York State Public Service
Commission tracks the source of electric generation for every electric
supplier in the state. You can find this information on the NY PSC’s website:

OK, I want to buy renewable energy through Energetix and NYSEG
Solutions, how do I do it?
Go to www.energetix.net, or

What does my purchase mean?
When you purchase 100% wind power from E/NSI, you are making a choice to not
only receive emission-free electricity, but you are helping to build the
demand for new wind projects in the state and region.
